FACT AND OPINION

Today we have two class for BEL260. One class in the afternoon for replacement class and class in the night.
The difference between fact and opinion is that a fact is something that is empirically true and can be supported by evidence, while an opinion is a belief that may or may not be backed up with some type of evidence. An opinion is normally a subjective statement that can be the result of an emotion or an individual interpretation of a fact.

At the end of the class, we join the activity on distinguishing between fact and opinion. We are divided into group of 5 and each group have to pick one of the product that miss Zu have put it in one box. We have to make 10 sentences of fact and opinion and other group will guess how much  fact and opinion. For my group we got a product of male perfume its is UBMEN . Rahey's group is considered as a winner as they got higher mark differ from other group.

It's hard to me because we have a short time to prepare it. It's not enough to we think about the flow of the story, the suitable song, the dialog and others. I think, if we have more time to prepare it, we can do better action. =)

However, we enjoy to do this activity. This activity teach me to be brave and not shy to face with others people.

The answers that we make are:
Hours spent on activities by different age groups in Someland

The table shows the hours spent on activities like watching television or video, socialising with four or less people, socialising with four or more people, doing individual exercise, doing group exercise or sport and watching movies in cinemas by different age groups from teens to 70s+ in Someland.

The activity of socialising with four or more people is decreasing from 350 for teens until 25 for 70s+.

For teens, watching television or video has the highest hours spent   because they like to watch entertainment programmes. However, from age 20s to 30s the hours spent has decreased because they are too busy with their works, but climbing back from age 40s to 70s.

On the other hand, doing group exercise or sport decline from teens to 70s+. This is cause by the ageing process that occurs to human being that leads to the declination in joining outdoor activities.

Based on the table, we can conclude that when we become older, we will do less outdoor activity because our body become weak as we do not have enough energy to do more activity. Government should organize a campaign such as "10,000 steps a day" to encourage community to join other outdoor activities.

       Overview
     Controlling idea
     Key Features
        Prediction and Proposal

We thanks to God because Miss Zu said that what we do is correct. Actually we not guess that what we do is correct. We feel very afraid to present it.
04 January 2012
Today is the bad class for BEL260. Miss Zu was angry with everyone because we not do a portfolio like she expectation. Suddenly, everyone become afraid with her and become silent person.
Today we study with afraid feeling. We learn about a part of reading, there are distinguishing mains ideas and supporting details.

2 types of sentences:
· a topic sentence, which contains the main idea
· One or more detail sentences which support, prove, provide more information, explain, or give examples.

Rules for Finding the Topic Sentence:
1) The topic sentence is usually first, but could be in any position in the paragraph.
2) A topic is usually more "general" than the other sentences
3) Detail sentences are usually more "specific" than the topic
4) Most of the detail sentences support, give examples, prove, talk about, or point toward the topic in some way.

Something new that we leant today is IMPLIED MAIN IDEA.
That mean the main idea is implied, or unstated, which means that you have to figure it out by our self.

 Mind idea must be:
1) Not be too general or too specific.
2) Try to make it broad enough to include all the supporting details in the paragraph
3) State it in a complete sentence.

This class become exciting when Miss Zu do an activity, there is we must find the mind ideas from the videos that she was show. It’s a group activity.

03 JANUARY 2012
at the beginning of this class, Miss ZU remind we all to do the online quiz.
to we learnt about NON-LINEAR writing. when Miss ZU asked about the meaning of non-linear writing everyone become silent for the moment. so, non-linear writing does not have a paragraph. it is in graph, table or article. we must change it to linear.

Tips on How to Do:
Spend 5 minutes reading the graphs/charts etc.
Make sure you understand axes.
Make sure you follow lines on graph.
Focus on the key information.
If two graphs – compare.
Think about the time period – tenses.
Vary your vocabulary.
Organize information clearly.
Write neatly.

NON-LINEAR WRITING FORMULA:
TITLE
1) OV + CI
2-3) KFs
4) P (1) + P (2)

Firstly extract the TITLE from the question and underline it.
OV- what does the stimuli presents
Answer: a bar graph, diagram, pie chart, pictograph, newspaper or article.
CI- what is the general trend of all the stimuli combined?
Answer: increasing, decreasing, consistent or fluctuating
For the second and third paragraph, we need to identify the Key Features(KFs) which are the most outstanding ideas from the stimuli. Do not make any external assumptions.
For the closing, it consists of minimum two sentences, prediction (P1) and proposal (P2).
P (1)- what future trend can you predict?
P (2)- what recommendation can we propose?
Answer: the government or company can....

TIPS:
1. WRITE THE TITLE AND UNDERLINE

2. WRITE IN 3 PARAGRAPHS (MINIMUM, BODY CAN BE MORE THAN 1 PARA)

3.1ST SENTENCE WRITE THE TYPES OF GRAPHS/DIAGRAMS/HEADLINES ETC.

4. 2ND SENTENCE WRITE THE MOST OUTSTANDING POINT

5. BODY - WRITE ONLY INFORMATION THAT IS OUTSTANDING (KEY FEATURES, NOT FEATURES.. FEATURES JUST MEANS EVERY SINGLE POINT, YOU NEED TO BE SELECTIVE IN CHOOSING THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES ONLY)

6. CONCLUSION IS JUST ONE SINGLE SENTENCE AS SUMMARY.

7. ALL WORDS AFTER 200 IS NOT CHECK/READ/EXAMINED. EXAMINERS WILL NOT READ AFTER THAT SO STICK TO THE WORD LIMIT.

8. TRY TO LINK ALL THE INFO AND EXPLAIN IT IN A SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE WAY.

9. TITLES ARE CONSIDERED 1 WORD (BUT I COULD BE WRONG)
At the end of this class Miss Zu give a some task to do. It's the group presentation. We need to present it at night class on Thursday.
